7) THE CHURCH OF THE MADONNA DELLA MERCEDE
IS THE CENTRE FOR SAN MARTINO
“A neighborhood and a parish community in full expansion…”
“Quoniam zelus domus tuae comedit me” ( Liber Psalmorum II,69 v. 10)
“Zeal for your house devours me”
Fervent striving for the glory of God is expressed through prayer, with the apostolate of words and works and with a lively desire to save souls.
The stand aims to represent the richness and importance of the liturgy, which can be glimpsed through the furnishings, liturgical vestments and sacred objects that have been used over the years in our church, elevated to a parish in 1938.
The cult of the Madonna della Mercede expands and the neighborhood embraces it. Every last Sunday of September, the day on which the anniversary is celebrated, her statue is carried in solemn procession along the streets of the neighborhood.
The painting of the "Madonna della Mercede" was a possession of the Parodi family, probably commissioned by Luigia Goetta as a gift to Bianca Parodi in 1887 in Peru.
Currently owned by the San Siro Co-Cathedral in Sanremo.
