6) THE CHURCH AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD WELCOME THE FRANCISCAN FRIARS

“The Friars and the community of the faithful begin a journey together towards a welcoming and lively parish…”

1920: the church of Our Lady of Mercede is taken over by the Franciscan friars, within the parish of Our Lady of Angels, with Father Candido Moro as the superior. The concession includes a house used by the Parodi family for servants; which  becomes the accommodation for the friars. The agreement is valid for three years, renewable for another three, and in this period the Franciscan friars establishe themselves with the Parodi family and in the neighborhood where they begin to organise multiple activities.

1996: on the 24 July, the Ligurian Franciscan Provincial and the Polish Provincial of Krakow reach an agreement to supply 3 friars to the communiry:  On the 3 September, bishop Giacomo Barabino and the provincial fathers of Liguria and Krakow welcome three Polish friars namely Romualdo, Edmondo and Dario.  They  settle in the church of Our Lady of Mercede and so a new Franciscan family gives new life to the Ligurian community.

1997: on 28 September, Father Cristoforo Paskiewicz becomes the new parish priest.
Now the parish priest is Father Peter Wach.
